Doctor Who: The Power Of The Doctor Review - 5 Ups & 7 Downs

6. DOWN - Chibnallisms (One Last Time)

Yes, Chibnall still writes like Chibnall.

We could split these into their own individual down entries, but that would give this episode a worse rating than it frankly deserves. So, for the final time, we’ll do a whistle stop tour of the Chibnall bingo card.

Overstuffed cast? Check. Rushed feel despite extended runtime? Check. Plotlines abandoned mid-episode? Check. Teleporting characters? Check. Wildly inconsistent gun morals? Check. Weirdly unacknowledged collateral damage? Check. Stiff and cringeworthy dialogue from the baddies? Check.

We have a bingo! Congrats to the lady in the back. Please don’t forget to collect your hamper at the end of the night.

And, just for fun, three contenders for the most Chibnall line of the episode. Firstly, one from Tegan, who has just been given an electric shock:

"Ouch, you gave me an electric shock!"

And this one from the Doctor, upon spotting a child tethered to a planet:

"The Cybermen have tethered that child into this planet!"

And lastly, one from Yaz, who misses the sledgehammer-sized hint that the Cybermen now follow a "Master":

"Doctor, what does it mean by that?"

It feels good to never have to repeat these comments again. Our Chibnall Doctor Who Groundhog Day is finally over.
