Doctor Who: The Timey-Wimiest Episodes Not By Steven Moffat

1. Turn Left (2008)

One of the most outrageously “timey-wimey” stories that we have ever had in Doctor Who was this series four entry, which served as a prologue to the year-ending finale.

Turn Left is about the Tenth Doctor’s companion Donna Noble suffering under something called a “time beetle” which causes her to travel back in her own timeline and change a simple decision (turning right at an intersection instead of turning left). This leads to her not meeting the Doctor at all, and thus not being present to save his life during their first adventure together.

The story proceeds to take us through new versions of the Doctor’s subsequent earth-bound adventures, and shows us how they all play out in a world where the Doctor was no longer present.

Usually, the people that were the Doctor’s friends and companions from the original timeline still step in save the day, but at the cost of their own lives.

It’s a fascinating alternate-timeline nightmare which is only finally undone by the intervention of former companion Rose Tyler, breaking through from a parallel reality.
