This emotional episode features the Eleventh Doctor and Amy Pond visiting a museum and seeing something unusual in a Vincent Van Gogh painting, leading them to seek out the famed artist in France in the 1600s.

There, they meet Van Gogh, who is depressed and struggling to make a living. Amy becomes eager to find a way to help him understand his lasting importance to art and culture.

The Doctor agrees and they take Van Gogh to the future, to see his own work in a museum, and hear an art history expert speak of his own influence in glowing terms Amy hopes this will change Van Gogh’s destiny and give him a longer lifespan to create more masterpieces, but after dropping him back home she is disappointed. Vincent has still died according to the original history, but one thing has change—a painting of sunflowers now bears a small dedication for her.
