Doctor Who: Top 10 Christmassy Moments

9. A Kiss From Kylie

Spending Christmas with the Doctor is far from peaceful but in 2007 he embarked on one of his most eventful holidays yet when he joined forces with none other than Kylie Minogue as Astrid Peth for one of the show's most ambitious and cinematic Christmas escapades to date. He should be so lucky (lucky, lucky lucky...)! From the moment the Titanic crashed through the TARDIS walls, it was full steam ahead for a full swinging yuletide adventure which encompassed everything that is universally adored about the disaster movie genre with its own array of formidably festive foes and brilliantly realised larger than life characters of the like that only Doctor Who could bring to the table. The specially extended episode as a whole is a pretty Christmassy affair to say the least, what with the spaceship's decadent decor and the heavenly angel-like Host robots getting up to all kinds of merriment and mischief throughout, but it's no doubt the story's heartwarming conclusion that will most successfully manage to warm the cockles of your Whovian heart(s). After sacrificing herself to save Titanic (and subsequently the entire world - thanks Astrid!) from the evil scheming of a calculating cyborg known as Max Capricorn, the Tenth Doctor managed to temporarily restore the remnants of The Companion That Never Was before sending her off on her way with the gift of an old Earth Christmas tradition - a parting kiss. It's one of those ridiculously nonsensical yet ruthlessly romantic moments for which Doctor Who, and particularly the Russell T Davies era, is acclaimed, and apparently Kylie's experiences filming the episode went on to inspire the lyrics of her song '2 Hearts'. If you listen to it, it pretty much speaks for itself. "Two hearts are beating together..."
