Doctor Who: Top 10 Companion Arrivals

9. Martha Jones - Smith And Jones

It was just another average day for medical student Martha Jones - go to work, do rounds, act as a mediator between family members. Then the Royal Hope Hospital was transported to the moon, and her life would never be the same again. In the middle of this unsettling crisis, Martha managed to keep a level head and soon realized that one of the patients, a certain John Smith, seemed to know the most about what was going on. Confused though she was, she stuck with this strange Doctor and learned more about the universe than she ever dreamed was possible. She also managed to impress the Doctor with her willingness to learn and open-minded attitude about alien life. In short, she was the ideal companion this situation. This was a great introduction episode for Martha because it set us up for what to expect from her - a no-nonsense, level-headed, competent young woman who knew how to handle herself in emergency situations. Her medical training was crucial in saving the lives of the patients in the hospital -and even the life of the Doctor. As far as first impressions go, Martha made quite a positive impact.
