Doctor Who: Why Jodie Whittaker's Doctor Is Already PERFECT

2. The Childlike Joy In Her Performance

What really comes across in Whittaker's performance - and again, it calls to mind Smith's debut - is the sheer joy she feels at being the Doctor. It's a weighty role - and even more so with the added pressure of being the first female Doctor - and yet you'd never know it from watching this episode, which the actress breezes through.

From making her new friends to getting her new outfit, there's something quite childlike about her take on the role, with a sense of wonder that fits nicely with her new self-discovery.

That makes for one hell of a charming performance, and an infectious one at that, which should play brilliantly with children and adults alike.

NCTJ-qualified journalist. Most definitely not a racing driver. Drink too much tea; eat too much peanut butter; watch too much TV. Sadly only the latter paying off so far. A mix of wise-old man in a young man's body with a child-like wonder about him and a great otherworldly sensibility.
