Dreamcasting The Watchmen TV Show
1. Nikolaj Coster-Waldau - Ozymandias
Nikolaj Coster-Waldau has already demonstrated that he has a comfort zone in acting, and that lies within gray morality. His most famous role is obviously Jaime Lannister, but the directions that the character must go are practically an audition for Watchmen. Jaime is almost an exact mirror of Watchmen's antagonist, Ozymandias.
Jaime grew up idealistic and idolizing the noble heroes of the past, much as Adrian Veidt idolized Alexander the Great, and followed in the footsteps of the Minutemen. Both became cynical and angered by the corruption in the institutes that they once defended, and commit acts that, while misunderstood by the majority, are probably the best that they could have done under the circumstances.
Matthew Goode's depiction of Veidt was widely criticized for not pulling off that Ozymandias is truly devastated by what he has done. He says he has felt every death, but before this, he poisons employees and has leveled some of the most populous cities in the world. Nikolaj Coster-Waldau could be the actor with the sort of visceral internal torment to make this remorse believable.
With Coster-Waldau a well-established actor in a dark ensemble HBO program, it's only a natural leap for the actor to make. Considering Watchmen appears to be the successor to Game of Thrones once the series runs its course, there would be no scheduling conflicts. It also doesn't hurt that he looks every bit the part, either.
