Elijah Wood takes lead in FX doggy comedy WILFRED

Elijah Wood (The Lord Of The Rings) has joined FX comedy Wilfred, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The 13-part series is based on an Australian comedy, about a socially-awkward man called Ryan (Wood) who imagines his next-door neighbour's pet Alsatian is a man wearing a dog costume called Wilfred. Aussie comedian Jason Gann will be reprising his role as Ryan's dog-friend Wilfred from the original (see photo above), in a remake masterminded by writer-producer David Zuckerman (Family Guy). I haven't seen the Australian series, but this sounds like a modern twist on the movie Harvey (where James Stewart hallucinated a giant rabbit). Has anyone reading this seen the original Wilfred? If so, did you enjoy it? Will it translate to America? Is Elijah Wood a good choice to play fantasist Ryan? I guess we'll find out next year, as Wilfred premieres on FX for summer 2011.
