Coming back from a commercial break, the show's continuity announcer tells the crowd, "Ladies and gentleman, four-time Emmy Award winner, Bill Cosby", at which point the producers cut to stunned and confused reactions from the likes of Ellie Kemper, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.
After a moment, Kimmel returns to the stage and tells everyone, "Don't worry, he's not really here. I just wanted to see what you guys would do", to rapturous applause.
To be fair, he clearly had everyone going for a moment, and he was tasteful enough not to bring out someone pretending to be Cosby. Wins all around.
