Emmys 2017: 9 Ups & 6 Downs
4. Ann Dowd Finally Wins A Major Acting Award
Veteran character actress Ann Dowd finally got her due when she won the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series Emmy for her work on The Handmaid's Tale.
Dowd famously had to fund her own Best Supporting Actress Oscar campaign for her fantastic performance in 2012's Compliance, spending $13,000 and coming away empty-handed.
It's a happy ending, then, that Dowd's career is now hotter than ever, and this well-deserved Emmy win is sure to keep her gainfully employed in meaty supporting roles for the foreseeable future.
Dowd's emotional speech was perhaps the night's most poignant, representing the thousands of jobbing actors desperate for that big break to secure their place in the industry. Bravo.
