Emmys 2017: Who Should Win Every Major Award (And Who Actually Will)
4. Lead Actor In A Drama Series
Nominees
Sterling K. Brown - This Is Us
Anthony Hopkins - Westworld
Bob Odenkirk - Better Call Saul
Matthew Rhys - The Americans
Liev Schreiber - Ray Donovan
Kevin Spacey - House of Cards
Milo Ventimiglia - This Is Us
Who Should Win
Bob Odenkirk
This marks Odenkirk's third consecutive nomination, and it feels like it should be his time. Better Call Saul has gradually turned into one of the very best dramas on TV, and Odenkirk is its heart. We knew from Breaking Bad he could do funny with this character, but what's more surprising is how he conveys the tragic helplessness of Jimmy McGill, delivering a fall on a much smaller, but also far more devastating, scale than that of Walter White.
Who Will Win
Sterling K. Brown
Brown won an Emmy last year for The People vs O.J. Simpson, so he's someone the voters definitely know and like, and he just so happens to give a stirring performance in the year's biggest network show. There is a risk of vote splitting, with Ventimiglia also in the running, which could benefit Odenkirk, but the material Brown's working with and his recent love suggests this is his.
