Eurovision 2013: How To Drink Along With The Show

The Songs

Hats! The songs are the biggest draw of the night, so it only feels right that this is where the drinking starts in earnest (and is also the round where your countries start to matter). There will be an electric mix of ballads, folk songs, euro-pop and everything else you can imagine, all of which need to be sung in either the native tongue of the country competing, French, or English. There are plenty of options around drinking based on genre, language, group composition etc. but I've listed some of the rules we've created over the years, which focus on taking it turns to drink whilst your chose country is performing. These rules have a tendency to punish the unlucky soul who gets Macedonia, Malta etc. but lets be honest, that's half of the fun. When your country starts singing - Drink! When your country finishes singing - Drink! If someone on stage is playing a ethnic instrument - Drink! If they're wearing an odd hat - Drink! If they aren't singing in English - Shot! (Don't worry, most countries are singing in English this year.) If they switch languages for the chorus - Shot! If they sing out of tune/forget the lyrics etc. - Finish your drink! Because you'll be taking it in turns to drink, if you've got enough people for only one country per person you might want to follow a different direction to encourage others to drink throughout the other countries performances - I'd suggest making everyone drink if you see an odd hat or ethnic instrument.
