Every Arrowverse Season Ranked From Worst To Best
14. Supergirl Season 3
It's almost common practice for the Arrowverse shows to go dark in their third seasons, so it should come as no surprise to hear that Supergirl followed suit.
A season that focused on the rise of the deadly Reign, the show adopted an apocalyptic tone throughout the first half of Season 3 that ultimately built towards a Gothic showdown between the Girl of Steel and the unearthly warrior in the midseason finale. Sadly, it was never able to fully capitalize on that in the second half, as the season needed to be dragged out for another 14 episodes which only ended up diluting all of the stakes.
That said, the emotional inner conflict as Sam struggled to contain the demon within was excellent - thanks to Odette Annable's convincing performances.
In a similarly divisive note, Mon-El's character development was a work of genius, but after the writers finally allowed him to achieve the redemption he had been working towards (he refused to betray his wife, who understood his feelings for Kara and ultimately ended their marriage), he was quietly written off without a powerful moment with the Girl of Steel. This understandably left fans feeling rather short-changed, and made us all wonder why it had built towards their reconciliation only to pull out at the last minute?
That aside, narrative issues, lack of overall stakes and rushed editing ended up undercutting what should have been the show's most powerful season, and resulted in quite a lot of predictability.
