Every Buffy The Vampire Slayer Holiday Episode Ranked From Worst To Best

4. 'Bewitched, Bothered And Bewildered' (Season 2, Episode 16)

Buffy The Vampire Slayer Fear Itself
Mutant Enemy

Right before season two takes an unassailably morbid turn with the savage murder of Giles' (Anthony Stewart Head) girlfriend, we are gifted with this luxuriously enjoyable Valentine's Day episode, which, like all of the series' Xander-centric outings, is not short on laughs.

Having been jilted by Cordelia (Charisma Carpenter) on Valentine's Day, Xander (Nicholas Brendon) blackmails Sunnydale High's latest young witch, Amy Madison (Elizabeth Anne Allen), into casting a love spell to reunite the pair. As should be expected, things don't go his way and Cordelia ends up being the only girl not madly in love with Xander. Hijinks ensue.

Thankfully, Bewitched, Bothered And Bewildered doesn't shy away from addressing the problematic aspects of this, having Xander recognise and be reprimanded for his mistake. To his credit, he also point-blank refuses to indulge in anything unsavoury with the bewitched women who go out of their way to waylay him -- clothed or otherwise -- at every turn.

Amy's knack for turning people into rats is also displayed here for the first time when she turns a naked Buffy into cat-bait -- something that would ultimately prove Amy's downfall in season three, when she transforms herself into a rat and is unable to cast the spell to turn back.
