Every Buffy The Vampire Slayer Season Finale Ranked From Worst To Best

2. Graduation Day Part Two (Season 3, Episode 22)

Buffy The Gift Sacrifice
WB

Serving as the last hurrah for the show's original high-school setting, 'Graduation Day (Part Two)' ensured that Sunnydale High went out with a bang.

Quite literally in this case.

Continuing on with the break-neck pace of the previous episode, this one ensures that the tension is kept high throughout, only to give us a little bit of breathing room before knocking our socks off with the now-iconic battle of Graduation Day. Over its first few acts, we get several incredible and nail-biting sequences, such as Buffy offering up her throat to save Angel, or Mayor Wilkins brazenly attempting to smother Buffy whilst she recovers in the hospital.

Those two scenes alone make it top-tier material, but it's the battle itself that makes this episode rank so high, as it's a pure spectacle from start to finish. Everything from the Mayor's transformation into a (very dated-looking) sixty-foot tall snake demon, to the students of Sunnydale High ripping off their robes to reveal a plethora of weapons to take him on perfectly encapsulates everything that makes the show so great to begin with.

Believe us when we say that it's genuinely impossible to not get swept up in the bombastic energy that this episode exudes.
