Every Death In The Simpsons Ranked

20. Dr. Nussenbaum (Friends and Family)

In our most recent episode, Mr. Burns visits his psychiatrist, Dr. Nussbaum, in an attempt to deal with his anger issues. In true Mr. Burns fashion, he ends up getting so angry that the good doctor collapses and dies.

We find out at his funeral that Nussbaum was also The Simpsons' psychiatrist (not that this ever plays into anything) and that Mr. Burns has paid for the whole event. We know this because Nussbaum's tombstone has "Paid For By C. Montgomery Burns" written across it, which enrages the entire town.

This kicks off the episode's main plotline about how Burns hires The Simpsons to play his pretend family in VR (new Simpsons, don't ask). The Doctor's last words do drive Burns for some of this episode, but the episode quickly becomes about Homer's friendship with a neighbour that he didn't know he had (again, don't ask).

Nussbaum's death is pretty insignificant in the grand scheme of things, but at least it had some ramifications for the episode going forward. Dr. Nussbaum is a character that zero fans of classic Simpsons will know and even those who actually saw this episode will struggle to recall him.
