7. Perfect Cell

He just keeps getting better.

With Cell now at semi-perfect form humanity is now living on borrowed time, as none of the z-fighters have a snowball's chance in the furnace of stopping him. The only two that can pose a threat are the two saiyans, Trunks and Vegeta who are struggling to find a way to break through, pushing to the limits of super saiyan. Meanwhile in the hyperbolic time chamber the other father-son tandem of Goku and Gohan train their hearts out.

To make matters worse though, the ever ambitious Vegeta isn't content with nipping Cell in the bud, instead allowing him to absorb Android 18 so that he may achieve perfection. Even with Trunks and Vegeta both reaching the ascended form of super saiyan, Perfect Cell dominates them, taking advantage of the speed they lost at the cost of bigger muscles.

Thankfully though, Cell is just as ambitious as Vegeta and affords the Z-fighters the same opportunity they afforded him. This saga ends with a battleground being built for a climactic showdown.

Ten days is all the time that the Z-fighters have in order to get to their strongest possible condition in the hopes that they might be able to take down cell. Fans walk away from this one knowing just how much of a threat Cell can be, but hopeful that one of the Z-fighters can take him down.
