Every Dragon Ball Z Saga Ranked From Worst To Best

5. Imperfect Cell

Dragon Ball Z
Toei Animation

Just to make things worse on the Z-fighters, as if the androids weren't bad enough, in comes this humanoid, reptilian looking monstrosity named Cell.

Piccolo may have fused himself with Kami so he could become more powerful, but he's no match for this new villain who came straight out the future and has knowledge of all the Z-fighters' moves.

A strong showing for Piccolo against 17 does little to induce hope for the heroes' cause. Cell makes quick work of 17, even in his imperfect form and manages to to absorb him, becoming even more powerful. The Z-fighters do not win this series, they merely escape.

With Goku still out of commission, suffering from his heart virus, the series instead put emphasis on giving the push to its villains. At the end of the series, even with Goku's imminent return still on the horizon, fans couldn't help but be in awe over Cell's power, watching him mow through the Androids who gave even the strongest of the Z-fighters trouble - as well as Piccolo, who was supposed to be at his peak.

This saga helped establish the notion that something special had to be coming out of one of the Z-fighters, otherwise the world was headed for dystopia.
