Every Episode Of Atlanta Season One Ranked Worst To Best

9. Episode 6 - Value

Atlanta, Donald Glover
FX

Van as a character might be the most detached from the other three leads; while she does have a child with Earn, she doesn't have much agency, and most of her identity in the series boils down to "Lottie's Mother" or "Earn's Girl".

That's kind of the point, and we learn how and why in the sixth episode of season one; Value.

The episode starts with a passive aggressive conversation between two distant friends with very different lives. One is a young mother with an "It's Complicated" relationship, while the other is a jet-setting sugar-baby living the high life.

The symmetry is laid on thick, but what we discover quite early is that even though the latter lifestyle was an opportunity stripped from Van when she had her daughter, it might not have been the life she wanted anyway.

Value is all about asking yourself what you can and do; what you bring to the table. How much you're worth to society and what can you do to increase or decrease that worth. In Van's case; she's in a tough corner as those around her are living their best lives, while she is being dunked on every corner she turns.

I overthink a lot of things. Will talk about pretty much anything for a great length of time. I'm obsessed with General Slocum from the 2002 Spider-Man film. I have questions that were never answered in that entire trilogy!
