28. Tempting Fate - Keith Killed Frank... Who Is Still Alive

Inside No 9
BBC

Plot: While some council contractors (Pemberton, Shearsmith and Weruche Opia) are clearing out a dead man's flat, they find a mysterious artefact with the power to grant wishes. But every wish granted will have a terrible price.

The episode itself? Great. The actual ending? Fabulous. The twist? Didn't quite work.

It turns out that Keith killed Frank (Nigel Planer), the man whose flat the group are processing, when Frank didn't give him any money for Keith's son's operation (Frank refused since the money, which had been wished for, was cursed).

Sadly, this reveal just didn't ring true at all as Keith never came across as someone who'd hurt anyone in this way before or even after this twist. The reveal that Frankie was still alive - since he'd wished for immortality - was better, but that was still undermined by the illogical nature of his 'murder'.

Still, the very end of the episode is great. Keith has knocked out Nick (Shearsmith), since Nick now knows what Keith did, and has left the gas on to kill him. Once he comes to, Nick wishes for Keith's son to be able to walk again, telling Keith that this is what he deserves.

Just as Keith hugs his son, he remembers that he left the gas on. Frank lights a match... and the flat explodes.
