27. The Harrowing - Katy Has Been Lured To The House To Be Possessed

Inside No 9
BBC

Plot: A teenage girl (Aimee Ffion-Edwards) is hired to look after a creepy old house while the owners are away, but all is not as it seems.

The actual ending to this thoroughly under-appreciated episode is terrifying and really, really works, but the twist of the episode? It's a bit of a 'meh'.

It turns out that the brother and sister who own the residence (Helen McCrory and Reece Shearsmith) are still in the house. Their brother Andras (Sean Buckley), who they'd claimed was disabled and bed-bound is, according to them, possessed by a demon. Andras is near the end of his life, so they've lured Katy there to take over.

Katy being lured to the house in this way was a very predictable reveal; it's likely that fewer viewers would've foreseen Katy's friend Shelly (Poppy Rush) being revealed as an ally of the creepy house-owners but they probably predicted the rest of the twist.

To be honest, this reveal feels largely identical to the one from the 2009 horror film House of the Devil, directed by Ti West, so it certainly isn't an original reveal in any way.
