36. Last Night Of The Proms - The Mysterious Guest Wasn't Supernatural After All
Plot: While watching BBC Proms, members of a family descend into bitter arguing over Brexit and nationalism, while things are further complicated by the arrival of a mysterious visitor named Yusef (Bamshad Ambedi-Amin).
This was another terrible plot twist... or was it even a twist at all?
The thing is, it's very, very hard to tell what Shearsmith and Pemberton were going for here. At first it seems that Yusef is a Jesus equivalent (or something like that) but after he's stabbed to death during the episode's climax, the other characters explain away the things which seemed like miracles as completely natural.
But then Yusef is seen hugging one of the characters in what may or may not be a hallucination at the end... yeah, this was all just really, really confusing. Was he supernatural or was he just an ordinary man? Well, Pemberton and Shearsmith haven't elaborated on what this all meant so far, so we'll just have to keep guessing.
This has already become one of the least-popular episodes of the show (it's the lowest-rated one on IMDb) and it's probably thanks to this overly ambiguous ending. It's a shame really, because most of the episode is very good prior to this misjudged conclusion.
