1. To Have And To Hold - Adrian Is Keeping A Sex Slave Prisoner In His Darkroom

Inside No 9
BBC

Plot: An unhappy couple, Adrian and Harriet (Pemberton and Nicola Walker), try to save their floundering marriage.

As good as most of these endings are, nothing beats this.

At first, To Have and to Hold is a poignant and wonderful dramedy that covers the oft-explored theme of something rotten lurking within everyday life. In this case, that 'something rotten' is the breakdown of the couple's relationship... or that's what we think.

So, Adrian (a wedding photographer) is in his darkroom. The music becomes incredibly sinister and you'll start to guess something's about to go down.

Few could've guessed that he was hiding an imprisoned sex slave in a secret room though. The first time that the first time anyone watches this, they'll be staring at the screen in open-mouthed disbelief.

Just like that, this transforms into the stuff of nightmares. It's not just about things being stale in suburbia, it's about a completely evil individual, who seems like the most boring man around, lurking in ordinary society right in plain sight.

You'll never see it coming, it changes and progresses the entire story and hammers home its themes - this is, simply put, a shattering, jaw-dropping and near-perfect plot twist and one you'll never, ever forget.

Another great thing is that the story ends happily, with Harriet rescuing the sex slave (Magdalena Kurek) and her and Adrian's child (Tom Mulheron) and leaving Adrian imprisoned in their place. If the show ever tops this, that'll be a huge twist.
