34. And The Winner Is... - Jackie Is One Of The Nominated Actresses
Plot: A jury debate over who should win an award for Best Actress.
In this much underrated instalment of the show, one of the members of the jury is Jackie (Phoebe Sparrow), a member of the public who got on the jury by winning a competition. As the end of the episode reveals, she's actually one of the nominated actresses and she subtly manipulated the outcome to the vote so that she would win.
A later episode does have the twist that there basically isn't a twist at all and while it worked very well for that particular story, it's very arguable that And the Winner Is... would've been an equally good episode for this twist to be used.
Realistically, this twist is probably the only believable twist that could've been done for this contained, dialogue-based comedy which is mainly characters debating, but this twist doesn't work and no twist at all would've been better.
After all, this final reveal feels completely pointless, it seems pretty contrived that 'Jackie' was able to get on this jury and it also messes with the tone of the episode.
The appeal of this story is seeing a hilarious but realistic encounter between various industry figures, but this idiotic narrative left-turn undermines the refreshingly real vibe throughout the rest of the episode.
