Every Inside No. 9 Twist Ranked

33. The Bill - It's A Scam

Inside No 9
BBC

Plot: A group of friends get into an appalling argument over who gets to pay the bill at a restaurant.

This is an excellent episode, but it's also an example of a time when Inside No. 9's insistence on always having a twist proved detrimental.

Towards the end of the episode, the waitress in the restaurant is accidentally killed with a knife and the richest of the four people having the meal offers to pay for a clean-up operation to clear them all of involvement... but when he steps on the 'dead' woman, she makes a noise and reveals she's still alive.

It's all a scam, conducted by the other three diners and the waitress, to extort money from the rich guy and this is one of those twists that negates the episode, since all of that genuinely interesting stuff about the men fighting over who pays for the meal wasn't actually real. Also, wasn't there a less convoluted way for these men to extort money?

Overall, very good episode, weak twist.
