5. Beyond The Aquila Rift

The Very Pulse of the Machine
Netflix

Love, Death & Robots has always stayed away from all-out horror, but (aside from All Through the House) Beyond the Aquila Rift has no issues bringing the scares to an almost intolerable extreme, leaning into its grimness without pause.

A cosmic horror in which a lost spaceship crew find themselves stuck in happily ever after but uncertain what they're seeing is real, the early series gem has an unwarranted focus on sex that derails the central mystery for a spell, but rights itself with the sheer insanity and bone-chilling bleakness of its final twist.

Brilliantly constructed and unpredictably cruel, Beyond the Aquila Rift is an early masterclass that paved the way for what Love, Death & Robots would soon become.
