5. Agent Carter

While ABC have given us four seasons of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and are diving deeper into the MCU with an Inhumans series (as well as the shows on sister network Freeform), its best - and one that deserved a longer run - was Agent Carter.

Hayley Atwell's Peggy Carter was already a beloved supporting character in the MCU after her appearance in The First Avenger and then the Agent Carter one-shot. The series, however, put her front-and-centre, and turned an excellent supporting player into a great lead character.

Taking place in the 1940s, it focused on Peggy's attempts to lead a double-life, working in admin for the Strategic Scientific Reserve, and yet kicking a lot of ass as a secret agent and helping Howard Stark clear his name. She's assisted in this by Edwin Jarvis, played by James D'Arcy, and together the pair form a charming double-act

The series works brilliantly as a period piece, looks incredibly stylish, and there's a whole lot of fun to be had as well. However, it more than delivers on the action front too, with plenty of exciting drama and a compelling villain in Dottie Underwood, while a change of location in Season 2 helps keep things fresh. It doesn't always land, but the short seasons mean it moves along at a brisk pace, and best of all it means more of Atwell's Carter, who is an absolute delight. It's a major shame it was cancelled after two seasons, and even if it won't happen, understandable to hope that one day it might be saved.
