Every MCU TV Show Ranked From Worst To Best
2. Jessica Jones: Season 1
The second Marvel/Netflix collaboration was a strange choice; based off a low-key cult series by Brian Michael Bendis - even some comic fans would be hard-pressed to speak of Jessica Jones' relevance for a live-action adaptation.
It was a move that completely paid off though, with no pressure or former predictions, Jones' underdog status could sucker-punch audiences with an absorbing and disturbing Noirish tale.
Titular character Kristen Ritter is infinitely likeable (despite her several scuzzy traits), with the tense plot putting her depressed anti-hero through the wringer as her broken past emerges. The intricate ties to the villainous Purple Man are even are gripping - as is the gleefully scenery-chewing performance by David Tennant.
Bendis’ gritty source material is successfully felt throughout the show, with a spotlight on character drama and detective mystery taking precedent. Plenty of delicious Film Noir overtones help to embellish its flavour into a distinct package as well.
It all works incredibly well, even it stumbles near its finish-line with a plot that drags its feet. Regardless, a compelling main hero and villain, an engaging story and fantastic style and dialogue elevate this one to stellar status for the MCU's TV universe.
