Every MCU TV Show Ranked From Worst To Best

3. Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D: Season 4

Ghost Rider Agents of SHIELD

S.H.I.E.L.D's show-runners were stuck in a corner by its fourth outing. Whilst the cast chemistry and general quality had gradually risen, there had been way too many Hydra/Inhumans fuelled world-ending plots by this point - they needed to shake things up frankly.

They did so in spades by dividing the entire season into three distinctly different plot-lines that showcased just how inventive the writing staff could be if put to task.

They entered guns-blazing with a horror-centric plot introducing Ghost Rider officially into the MCU. Controversially choosing the Robbie Reyes persona (instead of Johnny Blaze), regardless, the anti-hero was strongly played by Gabriel Luna with an engrossing backstory, some excellent computer effects and fierce action that brought the character to frightening life. The early dark switch for the show initially felt strange (especially with a randomly gothed-up and moody Daisy) yet it also felt fresh and eventually paid off big-time.

Things then changed tracks into a dense plot involving evil cyborgs with an emphasis on character-based suspense and espionage. Yet, it was really in the final arc that was best; a ‘Matrix’ style life simulator turning its established formula and character upside down.

Overall, it was a sharply writing, enjoyable acted and constantly inventive piece of work from the S.H.I.E.L.D's crew. The results are the show's absolute peak work.
