Every Rowan Atkinson Film & TV Project Ranked From Worst To Best

21. Mr. Bean's Holiday

Blackadder Series 2
Universal Pictures

Whilst the 2007 film was a welcome live-action revival of the Mr. Bean character, it does seem few lessons were learned from the disappointment of The Ultimate Disaster Movie.

Again, the primary criticism is that the super time efficient Mr. Bean episodes worked uniquely well, and are ill-suited to a feature length adaptation. Some observers do note that the film does somewhat return to the character's roots, with less emphasis on story, and less input from secondary characters than the first cinematic release.

In this escapade, Bean again heads abroad, this time to France, with largely shambolic attempts to help a separated child find his film director father, culminating in a reunion at the Cannes Film Festival.

A common theme in Atkinson's work, the project would attract an eclectic supporting cast with roles for stars as diverse as Willem Dafoe, Steve Pemberton of Inside No. 9 fame, as well as a cameo for the star's daughter, Lily.

With a ten year gap between the first and second Bean films, a third would have been expected in 2017, but never materialised, meaning this could be the last official cinema adventure for the character.
