Every Rowan Atkinson Film & TV Project Ranked From Worst To Best

20. Handy Bean

Blackadder Series 2
Banijay

Largely finding its place on this list by a technicality, Handy Bean is nevertheless a unique project that takes some breaking down.

What started as a one-off sandwich making video to promote Mr. Bean's Sandwich Stack, a hugely unwelcome mobile game, soon escalated into a full series, taking in POV instructional videos on topics as diverse as painting, magic tricks, and pumpkin carving.

Whilst it was revealed that it isn't actually Atkinson's hands that feature, the various Bean noises that are emitted at key points are his work, alongside brief interjecting scenes of gurning and murmuring.

The series now appears to have come to an end, with no new episodes released following a 16 part run which finished in early 2020. With the actor having flip-flopped in recent years over whether playing Mr. Bean at his increasing age is "sad", or whether he needs to be saved from retirement, there is a risk that this strange chapter in the Bean saga will be his last.

Ultimately difficult to rank against others in this list, the episodes did some good, promoting basic craft skills in an accessible way, in a world where practical expertise are an increasingly rare commodity as the generations go by.
