Every Rowan Atkinson Film & TV Project Ranked From Worst To Best

18. Johnny English

Blackadder Series 2
Universal Pictures

The original Johnny English film's middling position in this list will be a surprise to many.

Whilst Atkinson die-hards will argue this is one of his finest comedic performances, it has to be appreciated that general critical reception to the film as a whole was not as glowing, and that we are rather splitting hairs over the quality of the next ten entries or so.

Former late '90s one hit wonder Natalie Imbruglia is memorable as a more competent Interpol agent and love interest, and it is surprising to note she would not feature in another feature length film for six years, and only a handful of relatively obscure indie pictures after that.

Ben Miller's partnership with Atkinson as assistant Bough compares well with some very illustrious names on this list, and John Malkovich is as wonderful and committed to the role as ever as the villain Pascal Sauvage.

The film's family-friendly nature and omnipresence on British television over the last almost twenty years means that scenes such as English's accidental self-sedation, or his assault on the Archbishop of Canterbury are now ingrained into modern UK lore.
