Every Rowan Atkinson Film & TV Project Ranked From Worst To Best
28. Full Throttle
Full Throttle is a dull biopic of Sir "Tim" Birkin that will only really appeal to a limited number of vintage racing fans.
The film follows the racing and personal antics of the inter-war period gentleman racing driver, as well as his Bentley racing team's attempts to stay ahead of an emerging Mercedes outfit, in a rather clunky allusion to the re-emergence of Germany as a potential military threat.
One of few relatively weak individual performances featured here, Atkinson is a poor casting choice besides a passing physical resemblance. The relatively shallow character development proves to be a waste of both his comedic and dramatic acting chops.
The lead's passion for cars is well noted, with multiple guest appearances on the likes of Top Gear, and no doubt this contributed to his decision to take the role, but it is a conspicuous mis-step.
The 1995 televison movie has now almost completely faded from memory, not even having a Wikipedia page to its name. Fans searching for a more entertaining iteration of Atkinson indulging in his love for the motorcar should check out the more personal 1991 documentary The Driven Man.
