Every Star Trek Film & TV Show Ranked From Worst To Best
8. Star Trek: Discovery (2017-Present)
Placing Star Trek: Discovery so high on this list is somewhat controversial. When Disocvery first aired, it was the first Star Trek TV show since Enterprise ended 12 years ago in 2005, and expectations were high.
Season one had its problems. The aesthetic seemed drastically different from The Original Series, despite being set shortly before. Also, Discovery ditched the old style of episodic storytelling, where everything basically resets at the end of the episode, in favour of one big season-long story with lasting consequences. Many fans hated this change but it ended up being what makes Discovery so special. Watching this huge, intricately detailed story play out over entire seasons makes it feel much more grand and allows us more time to learn about the characters.
Most of the issues with season one were remedied in the second season, such as the confusion about the spore drive, the design of the Klingons, the weird hologram communicators, and the constant over-the-top action. After the second season, the story continues to expand through both space and time, quickly becoming one of the best Star Trek shows, especially for new fans.
