Every Star Trek Film & TV Show Ranked From Worst To Best
18. Star Trek: The Animated Series (1973-1974)
The first Trek cartoon, Star Trek: The Animated Series is basically a low budget sequel to The Original Series. After Star Trek became massively successful through reruns on TV, the network wanted to bring the series back but had already discarded most of the original props.
At times, the show used the fact that it was animated to its advantage, doing things they never had the budget for on The Original Series, like making a giant clone of Spock and aliens with more creative designs.
The series had a very short run, only 22 episodes, and many episodes were just rehashed plots from The Original Series, but there were a few really creative ones like Yesteryear, which really add a lot of depth to Spock's character, and features the return of a fan-favourite, the Guardian of Forever, a alien time-portal from the Original Series episode, City On The Edge Of Forever.
While the storylines from The Animated Series were often less imaginative than the previous series, it was a great continuation of the Enterprise's 5-year mission.
