18. Fisherman's Worf In Bendin' In The Wind
Bendin' in the Wind follows the story of Bender attempting to be a folk singer.
Fry gets hold of a Volkswagen campervan and starts using it. While trying to open a can of whale oil to fill it, Bender is horrifically damaged after being caught in the opener's magnet. After being told he will never walk again he meets the disembodied head of Beck.
Beck gives him a pair of neck mounted arms and invites Bender to join him on tour as a washboard player, playing his own broken body with the robot arms. The crew follow them on tour in the campervan and, on tour, Bender sees the treatment of other broken robots and is horrified. He writes a folk song about it and convinces Beck to hold a benefit concert in San Francisco but, before the show, regains the ability to move. He tries to hide it but can't help dancing to his song. He and the crew are chased out of town as a result.
The Star Trek reference is in San Francisco, where The Fisherman's Wharf has been renamed to The Fisherman's Worf, in honour of Worf, The Enterprise's chief of security in Next Generation.
