9. Controlling The Ship In Bender's Big Score

Star Trek Futurama
Comedy Central

Bender's Big Score was the first of the Futurama movies that came out after the show's cancellation in 2003. Fox had run the first 4 seasons but decided the show had run its course by 2003. Futurama came back in 2008 with a series of four movies before returning as a series in 2010 on Comedy Central.

Bender's Big Score is a story in which a group of scamming aliens manage to take control of Bender and take over Planet Express and slowly the world. When they discover that Fry has a tattoo of Bender's face with a code for time travel he is forced to go onto the run with Bender hot on his trail in a very terminator-esque story.

At the beginning of the episode, Hermes is decapitated and has to spend some time as a head in a jar while his body is being repaired. In the final battle of the movie, his head is wired directly into the ship's main control. This mirrors what The Crew of The Enterprise do with Data in the Next Generation episode Disaster. The reference is undeniable and adds a humorous nod to the original show.
