Every Star Trek Reference In Futurama
2. George Takei In Zapp Dingbat
The reference in Zapp Dingbat is a small one. The episode follows Leela as her parents get divorced and her mum begins working with, and then dating, Zapp Brannigan. Leela's parent split up after their 40th wedding anniversary, where it was revealed that Leela's mum has a degree in exo-linguistics, the study of alien languages, that her husband didn't care about.
After the split, she uses her skills when she sees Brannigan trying to broker a deal with an alien species while not being able to speak the language. She helps and soon becomes his lover, much to Leela's annoyance, who believes Zapp is only dating her mother to get to her.
The reference some in the bar early one, where George Takei's head is watching a holographic show of a dancer put on by a band parodying the Cantina band from Star Wars. While the figure twirls Tajei's head is shown on a nearby table watching intently. Takei then says 'Dance slave, dance' at the figure before the scene moves on.
Takei has cameos in a number of Futurama episodes and always brings a nice surprise to the audience when he appears.
