What can be said about Star Trek: The Next Generation that hasn't already been said? It took the core values that were established in The Original Stories and took them to brand-new heights with improved effects, close to a decade's worth of new stories to tell, and a bigger cast of intriguing characters that included the likes of William Riker, Deanna Troi, and Jean-Luc Picard, who is in contention with Sisko as the greatest Star Trek captain of all time.

Every time Patrick Stewart was on the screen, his words and actions were palpable. And it was him who was the torchbearer that carried Star Trek's ideas and principles to a new generation of audiences.

Plus, while it focused heavily on exploration, much like The Original Series, The Next Generation also featured some of the darker elements found in shows like Voyager or Deep Space Nine. In its seven-year run, this show just managed to cover so much ground.

In The Next Generation, we were given forward thinking in regards to both science and society that surpassed that of even the first Star Trek series, ideas to ponder about finding your place in the world and what it means to be human, as well as a healthy dose of humor.

In the end, Star Trek: The Next Generation improved upon what had been done before, and hasn't been surpassed since.
