Every Star Trek: Voyager Season Ranked From Worst To Best

4. Season 7

Tom Paris Death Star Trek Voyager

Similar to season 1, season 7 doesn’t have any stand out episodes or particularly bad ones either. It is a consistent season that unlike season 1, has a higher quality of episodes that fans are happy to re-watch.

The final two-parter, Endgame, provided an excellent end to the series. Making the time jump from 10 years after the crew returned home to them still being stuck in the Delta Quadrant allows viewers to experience both the coming home of the ship and what the future holds for the crew they adore. However, many were troubled by the relationship between Seven and Chakotay that is thrust upon viewers with no prior indications. This storyline does dim the excellence of the final episode, but if viewers overlook it, the episode is brilliant.

There are some excellent Doctor-centred episodes in this season, with Critical Care and Author, Author further exploring the Doctor's humanity. Author, Author brings up a similar storyline to Next Generation's The Measure of A Man, as the Doctor's rights are brought to a hearing to determine whether he can be considered a person under Federation law and exercise his rights as an author. It's tense, as the crew fight for the Doctor, and the episode provides some great arguments around what it means to be a person.

Critical Care tests the Doctor's humanity and when he is pushed to the limit, he finds he is susceptible to committing acts that he would never have thought he was capable of, just like a human. The social commentary in this episode is also brilliantly covered within the storyline, providing a mirror to the culture around medical care today.

While this season is similar to the first entry in this list, it's stories and the characters are more developed and thus provide better episodes more consistently.

A recently created Star Trek fan with a special affinity for the adventures of Voyager and its crew. I enjoy the occasional horror movie and love anything 80s to the point where I've been told I was an 80s child reborn. I'm a true blue Aussie and proud of it.
