Every Sword Art Online Season Ranked Worst To Best

Sword Art Online II's second half goes in a strange direction, as it inserts an additional arc that only lasts a few episodes. Now, this could work well as a nice break from the norm and a quick side adventure, but only if the arc was good, and in this case, it wasn't.

The Calibur arc follows Kirito, Asuna and friends as they go on a quest for the legendary sword Excalibur and find themselves responsible for saving all of Alfheim. While that sounds somewhat exciting on paper, the arc is a rather mundane experience, as the stakes just aren't high enough.

Each arc thus far has brought real-life threats into the game, but here, it simply feels like they are partaking in a quest, which makes it feel unimportant. Towards the end, nothing has changed as no one believed Alfheim would get destroyed, and Kirito barely even makes use of the sword he receives.

Plus, the fact that one of the central characters was a jellyfish elephant named Tonky goes to show just how silly this arc was. It felt entirely out of character with the rest of the show, as there was no real danger, and it was simply filler.
