Fargo Season 3: 8 Things We Already Know
5. Ewan McGregor Plays Brothers
One of the most intriguing things about Fargo’s newest season is the casting of Ewan McGregor in the lead roles of Emmit and Ray Stussy.
Emmit is the American Dream made flesh, a self-made father and real estate mogul known as 'The Parking Lot King of Minnesota', while his brother is a rather unpleasant looking, beer-bellied parole officer who blames Emmit for his lot in life.
According to executive producer Warren Littlefield: “One has had skin care and moisture and microdermabrasions, and the other one — not so much. So you’ve got a quality of life that affects how they age and the way they look at the world. That resentment has been building for 20 years, and that launches us into this year.”
Going off these details, and a video released via Fargo’s Twitter account, it seems like the show’s third season will have a real Homer Simpson/Herb Powell vibe, and will centre on the two brothers and their long-standing rivalry.
Thankfully, capturing one actor in two roles on film is a lot easier in 2017, so it’s unlikely we’ll be seeing any weird changes in picture quality or aspect ratio when Ray and Emmit meet, like whenever Phoebe and Ursula shared a space on Friends.
Although he's no stranger to acting outside of his native Scottish accent, McGregor has stated that the show's signature Minnesotan accent is the hardest he's ever had to do: "It’s a very strange accent to lock into. I don’t know if it’s harder or not as a non-American. I certainly wish I was coming at it from an American accent, not a Scottish one."
One thing’s for sure, we’ve never seen Ewan McGregor looking quite like this…
