Chris was Travis' sixteen-year-old son who managed to survive until the second season. Though he may not have been one of the more likeable members of the family, his complex coming of age confusions and Travis' reliance upon him is what made him an important factor for the group's survival.

Chris decides to leave his family to join Brandon and Derek on the road for a new sense of freedom. After Travis begs Chris multiple times to return, it turns out to be all in vain as Travis heads back to Madison alone. Not even an episode later, we see Brandon and Derek come to the hotel gates in search of medical attention after a car accident.

After a violent interrogation sequence carried out by an angered Travis in a locked room, it is revealed in a flashback that Chris was behind the wheel during the accident and only suffered a severely mangled leg. However, as seen back at the barn, Brandon and Derek decide it's always best to cut losses, therefore, shooting Chris in the head with a shotgun in the middle of the road.

The short time between seeing Chris alive and murdered is shuddering and Travis' obvious breakdown as he unleashes his fury upon the two murderers in a graphic cafe fight scene is what makes this a memorable shock.
