Fear The Walking Dead: 6 Reasons To Be Excited

Television spinoffs are a tricky deal. Over the years, many popular shows have spawned them, but for every success story like Frasier, there's a Joey or AfterMASH waiting to prove that not every character or story needs to continue on.
Over five seasons, The Walking Dead has only increased its massive popularity, rolling along with juggernaut ratings that aren't on the verge of dropping anytime soon. Back in 2013, AMC announced the development of a companion show, immediately raising questions and concerns among fans about what it could entail and whether or not its very existence would dilute the brand.
Fortunately, AMC proved earlier this year with Better Call Saul that they were able to craft a spinoff show on par with its predecessor, helping ease some concerns about their next attempt: Fear the Walking Dead. Since then, there has been a steady stream of clips and stills from the show that ultimately laid the groundwork for the reveal of an excellent Comic Con trailer that gave everyone a clearer sense of what the new show is bringing to the table.

With Fear set to unleash on August 23rd, it's hard not to wish for the best as we wait to see if it can deliver on its promises and be a worthy companion to the mother show. From all-new original stories to a setting far removed from the woods of Atlanta, let's examine just a few of the reasons to be excited for its imminent arrival...
6. The Los Angeles Setting
In contrast to the wooded environments of The Walking Dead, Fear is taking the action to the west coast and planting it firmly in the concrete jungle of Los Angeles. From teases of suburban environments and skate parks to hints of beach-based action, Fear appears set to fully embrace the geographical diversity that makes up its new Southern California setting.
As anyone who lives here can attest to, the idea of seeing walkers roaming Hollywood Boulevard, causing people to leap off the Santa Monica Pier trying to escape or feeding on victims in one of our many graffiti-laden canals is enticing. Films like Zombieland have already touched upon such imagery, but Fear has the opportunity to run with it on a weekly basis, spreading its scope over everything that makes Los Angeles so unique. In many ways, the stark differences in settings between it and the mother show have already helped Fear carve out a distinct, refreshing visual identity all its own.
Unlike The Walking Dead, the world of Fear is going to be full of people, with life in Los Angeles going on as usual at the start of the series, which leads us to the next point...
