Fear The Walking Dead: Everything You Need To Know
6. Where It's Set
The Southeastern setting of The Walking Dead, centred around the state of Georgia and slowly outward from there, plays a huge part in the series and creating the look and feel of the show, especially with the vast swathes of woodland areas. It would've been easy for this new show to stick to that formula, simply taking it back a little while, and not having to do too much with sets and locations. Thankfully that isn't the route they've gone down with Fear, instead opting to switch over to the West Coast to show another side of America. It isn't quite as exciting as if they had gone beyond the US to show what the rest of the world is like, as we largely have no idea how the likes of Europe and Asia have been hit by the outbreak, or if they have at all, but it's still something different and exciting. Los Angeles is a wise choice, as it's about as different to Georgia as you can get, a major city full of glitz and glamour on one side, and a seedy underworld on the other, all of it under a constant media glare. With a large population and quite an urban landscape, there's scope to show the outbreak in ways that make this really stand apart from The Walking Dead, and how to deal with it in a much more urban landscape. It will also play into the appearance of the walkers, given the different climate in LA as opposed to Georgia, which should make for some interesting effects work and some zombies that are rather different to what we're used to.
NCTJ-qualified journalist. Most definitely not a racing driver. Drink too much tea; eat too much peanut butter; watch too much TV. Sadly only the latter paying off so far.
A mix of wise-old man in a young man's body with a child-like wonder about him and a great otherworldly sensibility.
