The Flash: 10 Ways To Ensure The Series Will Be Awesome

8. A Great Sense Of Humour

One of the things The Flash has always helps provide for DC Comics is a bit of levity to help bring us up when the nature of the situation brings us down. When you're dealing with a world steeped in murder, mystery, threats, and violence, it helps to have a hero who can take some of the aggressive power away and make light of the situation. In Arrow, Barry as already shown signs of being a very bright and witty kid. He and Felicity had wonderful chemistry and seeing that personality get a chance to expand in subsequent seasons would be a real joy. But a lot of that depends on Barry Allen being the heroic antithesis to Oliver Queen. Though Barry also has a dark past he never sought to pummel criminals with his bare hands like Green Arrow does. Being a vigilante was never an option, likely because of his size and lack of training. But being given the gift of superpowers is a great excuse for him to get out into the world and stop the kind of villainy he detests. Since we know Barry admires and respects Oliver for being a hero, it's great motivation for him to do the same. But by the nature of his show being more based in the science fiction end of the spectrum, a little levity will go a long way in helping audiences accept and appreciate his powers and his rogues gallery. The fantastical is always easier to stomach when it's given with a grin.
