The Flash: 10 Ways To Ensure The Series Will Be Awesome
6. Great Visual Effects
Let's face it, the story is about a man who runs at great speeds, potentially faster than that of light, and although the show will be dealing with budget constraints much like any other, the quality of the visual effects are imperative. Superheroes are something audiences are craving at the moment - they can't get enough of them. But when those superheroes finally let loose and utilise their abilities and it looks lacklustre? That's when we have a problem. No amount of writing and acting can save a superhero from looking like he can't do what audiences expect him to. Because of this the show may be structured around its limitations and that's not necessarily a bad thing. Many shows and films utilise the unseen to work just as powerfully, or sometimes more, than what they do show. Barry running at super speeds is a requirement because of the nature of the character, but rather than present us with Flash-type techniques like tornadoes and doppelganger effects that don't look right, it's better to save the money and spend it where it counts, on The Flash's taking down of crooks and villains. It's impossible to know or even speculate at this point what the effects will look like - we've only seen the suit. Because of that, all final judgement should be reserved until the show gets off and running. However it's important to keep in mind that as a show becomes more successful it does receive larger and larger budgets. That means for a certain length of time we may have to rely on being entertained by strong stories and characters to help us accept the fact that this isn't a show being produced on a mega million dollar blockbuster budget.
