Frasier: How It Should Be Re-Cast In 2021
4. Roz Doyle - Sharon Horgan
After 10 years of quality work, Sharon Horgan finally cracked the US in earnest with Catastrophe, the delightful romcom she created and starred in with Rob Delaney. From there, she has been in high demand on the big and small screen, with her previous work like Pulling getting a well deserved rediscovery.
With her relatability, humour, and ability to skirt the line between confidence and vulnerability, there could be no better choice to play Frasier’s radio producer and foil Roz Doyle. Alongside Martin, Roz’s role was to act as an earthy counterpoint to Frasier’s pomposity, a worldly woman who was always on hand to puncture Frasier’s booksmart buffoonery.
Over time, though, Roz was given weightier stories of her own, and Morgan has repeatedly proved her chops as a dramatic actress. Most recently in This Way Up she put in a heartbreaking turn as Aisling Bea’s sister, a woman who seemed to have her life in place but couldn’t resist putting a spanner in the works.
Tompkins and Morgan would make for a fantastic comedic double act, and Morgan could likely bring even more to this meaty role.
