Friends Reunion: 8 Things We Learned

1. The One Where We Don't Need A 'Proper' Reunion

So, this wasn't the Friends Reunion people hoped it would be. There was no Matthew Perry, there was no actual skit or scene of them as the characters, it was just the actors having a chat about their time on their show (which, incidentally, is exactly what it was billed as, so I'm not quite sure why people seem disappointed). What this does confirm, though, apart from the fun secrets we got out of it, is that there's still a demand for a reunion, but also it should never happen. It's 12 years since Friends ended, meaning it's now been off-screen longer than it was on it, and these actors - while they haven't done, and probably never will do, anything as successful - are all in very different places. Hell, just look at the difficulty and level of planning that went into getting them in the same room - and even then, one of them couldn't make it. Friends had the perfect ending, and while it might be fun to imagine what happened to those characters afterwards, the reality probably wouldn't be. The cast had something special when they were together then, that they probably wouldn't have now, and given it was about a specific point in life, there's really no point in picking things back up now. This wasn't the Friends Reunion people hoped for, and that's a good thing - here's hoping that sort of reunion never actually happens (but that they remain great friends and hang out every day and drink coffee IRL, obvs).
