Futurama: 10 Most Annoying Little Inconsistencies

9. Did Zoidberg Just Forget His Deal With The Professor?

When Futurama first aired in 1999, though the seed was incredibly already planted for the reveal of Nibbler pushing Fry into the freezer tube several years later, the writers would have had absolutely no idea what kind of stories they would write in the future.

This isn’t uncommon, however it does occasionally lead to a few plot holes. There could be something that happens early on in the series that is ultimately contradicted by another story or a flashback further down the line, and this is exactly what happened with Doctor Zoidberg and Professor Farnsworth.

In 'The Tip of the Zoidberg', it is revealed that the real reason the Professor kept Zoidberg around was to kill him in the event he was ever hit by the then-presumed-dormant hypermalaria within him. This was a deal stretching back to 2927, and was a heartwarming look into the pair’s relationship and why they had stuck together for so long.

Yet, in ‘The Deep South’, Zoidberg was ready to move under the sea and away from the Professor, with neither seeming to care that it would completely break the pact they made all those years ago. Had Bender not accidentally burned down Zoidberg’s home, forcing him back above the surface, he never would have been able to help the Professor when the disease finally struck.
